Can I just say now that I'm in love with Julian Schnabel. I've written about my crush before. But after finally getting to watch The Diving Bell and The Butterfly it's getting to become a full-blown obsession. I'd love anyone to recommend a book about Monsieur Schnabel. I HAVE to learn more!
Oh, and the film - divine. Beautifully shot. An inspiring story. Definitely worth watching. It made me want to buy the book that it's based on by former Elle editor Jean-Dominique Bauby called Le scaphandre et le papillon.
A few little facts about the film:
* Johnny Depp was originally going to play the lead.
* Julian Schnabel learnt French to make the film.
* Julian Schnabel won Best Director at both the Golden Globe Awards and Cannes Film Festival among a stack of other awards.

I love him too. Any man who can waer pjamas all day has my vote. And was that not one of the best films, of the ever!?
P, a lucky accident indeed. I almost didn't see the end because C decided he wasn't going to sleep while I was trying to watch it. So even though I had to watch it over two days, still brilliant.

Ooohh, did you read the book in French, Lisa? ... I am ashamed to admit that I haven't gotten any further with The Shipping News because I was working on my novel and started to re-read The Great Gatsby for inspiration/reference then I read Carla Coulson's Italian Joy and started her Paris Tango - great holiday/dreaming reading. And then I had to start People of the Book because book club is next week and my pile is well and truly about to topple. I'm hopeless at starting too many books at once sometimes. Tut tut.
Natalie, I wish I could say that I did read the original book in French, but alas, no, it was the English version.
Lisa, well that makes me happy because there's no way I could read a French version. Will have to look for it next time I'm at a bookshop.
