florist kirsten strecker
A beautiful little note arrived the other day. It was from florist Kirsten Strecker. She was a photographer who achieved great things in New York but decided to return to Australia with her family, and pursue a new life - as a florist. I first came across her work via Mr Jason Grant, who never ceases to amaze me with the creative people he knows.
Which five words best describe you? Not very good at INTERVIEWS.
What was your first job and what path have you taken since? Photographic assistant 5 years - photographer 15 years - mother of two, always - FLORIST.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt along the way? Empty pockets never stopped anyone, only empty heads and empty hearts.
What’s your proudest career achievement? Shooting the cover of LIFE magazine.
What’s been your best decision? To move to New York in 2004... AND then back to Sydney in 2007.
Who inspires you? Passionate people who care... My family, friends, and all the amazing and talented people I have been fortunate enough to work with.
What are you passionate about? Family, food, art, FLOWERS.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? Photographer Richard Avedon.
What dream do you still want to fulfil? To work with the art department (doing the flowers) on a feature film.
What are you reading? The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson.
