indoor plants can be cool

Ever since I visited the home of landscape architect Daniel Baffsky, I have had a new respect for indoor plants. He had the most amazing fishtail ferns, which integrated beautifully into the interior of his place. It actually made the house seem more welcoming and homely, but was done in an altogether cool way.

So when real living magazine asked me to do a feature on indoor plants I set myself the challenge of creating spaces that were similar to what I found at his home.

I even made an attempt to give cacti a new lease on life.

I have no choice but to gather indoor plants, as I don't have a front for back yard, and I was drawn to this post for that reason.

You can do so much with indoor plants, and they really add life and warm to any space!

Cacti are my favourite!

Love these looks! It can be a challenge to work plants in without the patchwork look, and since I love them always looking for better styling ideas - thanks!

Lovely styling, Natalie. I'm not a huge fan of indoor plants....I love to garden outdoors. However this inspires me to think more about adding a few beautiful, sculptural plants to my interiors!

Thanks all for the lovely feedback.

Something that I loved about working on this feature was the idea that a plant lasts so much longer than a flower. And it can give great shape and texture to a room. They really can become indoor sculptures. Also, when it's winter, it's nice to have a touch of greenery indoors. And I love the cuttings idea. Again, a new take on the flower idea.

I so agree! I think the humble houseplant is deeply underrated. I love all these pics...I think I need to buy a couple more plants now ;)
