designer ellie bradley

If the designs of Ellie Bradley are familiar that's because her business Xavier&Me has fast become a favourite of Australian interior stylists. In fact, her cushions were featured in the Oprah television special in Australia. Many of the products are handmade and vintage-inspired. Ellie has also just launched a a range of bedlinen, and she provides a bespoke furnishings service. She has recently launched an online boutique. Or her wares are available through Gallop Lifestyle.

Which five words best describe you? Driven, creative, loving, patient, organised.

How did you get your career start and what path have you taken since? I first started in advertising and design but after 15 years I was given my break, I was made redundant. This gave me the opportunity to pursue my first love designing textiles, and in 2009 Xavier&Me was born.

What's the best lesson you've learnt along the way? Follow what you are passionate about. Even if you don’t make it a career choice, you should still pursue your dreams.

What's your proudest career achievement? Having my cushions featured on the Oprah Australia Special in December 2010.

What's been your best decision? Starting Xavier&Me.

Who inspires you? My family. Each member has attributes that inspire and give me support to follow what I have always wanted to do. It’s certain characteristics within each of them that inspire me.

What are you passionate about? Vintage finds at flea markets, textiles, and everything design. I am currently at the beginning stages of renovating my home so I am always on the prowl for great finds for my home. I have just bought two enamel vintage light shades at a flea market in Toulouse, France.

Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? This is a hard one as there are so many, I would love to meet my grandparents again as I have so much to tell them. In terms of other people, I would love to meet Frida Kahlo. She was a complex and intriguing woman who followed her passion of painting.

What dream do you still want to fulfil? Living in Paris or New York or both.

What are you reading? Wind in the Willows – this is to my little boy each night, and Tim Winton's Cloudstreet. I am recording the series but thought I should read the book before watching the mini-series.
